Tropical Smoothie Travesty.

Avid flip flop wearers that we are, we attempted to celebrate National Flip Flop Day at Tropical Smoothie with a free smoothie. It seemed like an appropriate way to spend the day. Lots of other people thought so too. We bumped into three families from our ward getting in line for free deliciousness as well. As soon as our flip flopped feet stepped in line, an employee came outside to tell us all that they were out of free smoothies. No substitutions, just out. 

Devastated to the core, we weren't sure what to do next. We asked our friends what they were planning - some were going to track down a free smoothie at any cost, some didn't know and some were mustering the courage to tell their kids (who'd already reserved seating inside) that there would be no smoothies - thank goodness Teagan had no idea what was going on. Since this was our only plan for the evening, I scrambled to think of a suitable replacement. Sonic is right down the street, so I suggested we get a drink there. And as soon as I said it, remembered that we came out to get a free smoothie. And being the cheapskate frugal woman I am, didn't want to spend money on a substitution. So instead, we headed home to trash our kitchen make our own smoothies. 

 

 

The verdict? Not as fast, not as free, not as delicious, but just as fun. We still managed to make the best of National Flip Flop Day...and you can bet we'll be first in line next year.
