Five years ago next week we were honeymooning at a swanky B&B in upstate New York. To say that we weren't their target demographic is the understatement of the century. We sat, twenty-something newlywed penniless college students, at breakfast with a wealthy retired couple on a birdwatching tour of the United States and two friends celebrating their recent divorce settlements. As if we didn't feel out of place already, upon finding out we were on our honeymoon, the latter sneered and said, "So that's YOUR garishly painted car outside" followed by a cluck of the tongue. "Well, you're in for some rough times ahead." You mean it gets worse than the first 12 hours of marriage? Gasp!

So we tried our best to blend in for the next few days and pretend like we belonged there. That lasted until the owner caught us on our way out to dinner and offered up several menus from local restaurants. To humour him, we saw and looked through a couple, but after searching unsuccessfully for an entree under $30, we decided against dining at any of those venues. But we could hardly tell him that, so we said we'd take them into consideration.
Then we went to Wendy's. Followed by dessert at McDonald's. Our fancy act didn't hold up long.
We didn't expect him to ambush us upon returning to the B&B inquiring about where we dined. Neither of us are great liars, so we told him exactly where we went. He left us alone after that. While this is the first year that we've actually had more money coming in than going out, we kept with tradition and dined at Arby's. And McDonald's for dessert :)
We scored half-price tickets to Blue Man Group - half-price non-refundable tickets to Blue Man Group at 10:00 PM and upon arriving home from picking them up learned that our babysitter who had planned to stay the night had come down with the flu. Our fantastic friend, Hilary (alone with two children of her own) offered to take Teagan for the night. We owe her HUGE! What a friend.
What a show! It was really cool. Of the 4 shows we've seen in our 3 years in Vegas it wasn't our favourite, but it had been on our list since we got here and were glad to satisfy our curiosity.
Don't worry, we weren't that hard core, I just found a fun effect. But for the record, I think Brandon would do incredibly well at the Blue Man Academy.
So thanks to Hilary for an evening sans baby (for the record, T handled her first night without me a lot better than I did - Hilary's a lot of fun) and thanks to Buddy for hanging in there for 5 years (next week)...don't want to count my chickens :) Here's to many more years of fat-laden burgers, greasy fries and sugar-loaded shakes!
