Stranded at the Drive-In

This summer our ward tried a summer calendar of our own, like we did in the Coronado Ward, from which many of us came. Our ward is significantly smaller these days, so given that fact and that many of us were out of town for a good portion of the summer, some activities were poorly attended. We didn't get to go to many, being in Canada for most of June. But we did get to the "Drive-In" they hosted at the church. The previous week, many got together and decorated boxes to serve as their cars. I wasn't feeling well that day and instead took the easy way out and emptied a box of our "Sentimental & I'll Fit Into It Again One Day" clothing, padded it with pillows and called it a day. She wasn't the most stylish (see photo: Sarge) but I guarantee she was the most comfortable. To avoid any sort of copyright infringement we watched Mormon messages on lds.org on a projector. I was skeptical and estimate Teagan sitting for 2, maybe 3 minutes (long enough to finish a bag of popcorn) but she surprised me and was riveted for the better part of an hour. It was a thing of beauty. The only time she got up was when she wanted to popcorn refill. We will be watching these at home, mark my words.
Because that "Drive-In" went so well, but mostly because it's been on my list of things to do for a long time, we invited the Statens to the actual Drive-In with us. Which meant that they drove us and provided more than enough snacks for all of us :) We have good friends. We saw Despicable Me 2 and it was quite the experience. As someone who is crippled by the fear that their toddler will have a public meltdown and be powerless against it, this particular outing was a breath of fresh air. Kids everywhere, unlimited snacks, a great spot (thanks, Ryan! - we almost had someone park immediately in front of us halfway through the movie, but the group they were pulling beside took care of them with the kids yelling "Go away!" and shooing them away. Teagan could get up and walk around if she was restless, without drawing attention and giving me an ulcer. The movie itself was good. I could have done without the helicopters going back and forth every few minutes, but with Family Night being as cheap as it was, I couldn't really find anything to complain about. It was a new experience for me and a really fun one. The weather cooperated and the company was beyond compare. What a fun night!
