Come Listen to a Prophet's Voice

Twice a year, our church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - hosts a General Conference. Four two-hour general sessions of inspirational messages from the church's leaders are broadcast from Salt Lake City to 197 countries, in 95 languages, gathering church members together from around the globe. It really is incredible. We believe that God speaks to us today, just as in ancient times, through His chosen leaders. It may sound like a foreign concept, but as "Mormons" it's one of the cornerstones of our religious beliefs. Because Conference is broadcast live via the internet, we were able to hook up the computer to our TV and enjoy it on the "big" screen. We were uplifted and inspired and heard words that spoke directly to our hearts and seemed to be meant for us. Amazing.
Teagan was as attentive as an almost 3 year old can be, particularly on Saturday. She set up her little tent in front of the TV and camped out to listen to the words of our living prophet. It reminded me of a scripture from The Book of Mormon: "And they pitched their tents round about the temple, every man having his tent with the door thereof towards the temple, that thereby they might remain in their tents and hear the words..." {Mosiah 2:6} It was pretty precious. We found a spread of photos of The First Presidency, The Twelve Apostles and the Quorums of The Seventy and had her find them when they got up to speak. She was surprisingly good at "finding the match" as she put it and even when she wandered around and lost interest, she would come back when the next speaker got up to find their picture. She's such a smarty pants.
Then it became more of a party tent. She had a couple of her dolls in there and, evidently, they needed to be changed. (She's obsessed with poop lately.) She's been paying attention when Daddy changes her bum, because she gave us the running commentary and went one step further - hanging the "dirty" wipe out of the door of the tent to show us. Charming.
Stickers, colouring books and finding the speakers only got us so far when it came to keeping her entertained, and during the last talk from President Monson, Daddy resorted to extreme measures to keep her still. "Daddy made me a hot dog!" she kept repeating.
We caught most of it.
Then I remembered taking this picture two years ago. So much sweetness.
