I used my best Canada funnies HERE last year, but I'll do my best to salute The True North again. That's right, Canada Day is upon us again; a holiday sadly eclipsed by a similar American celebration a mere 3 days later. To address your concerns: NO, I didn't hang that Canadian flag today to be a jerk so close to July 4th, nor do I intend to start a war and I am not demonstrating a refusal to let go of my culture (we do too have a culture!) I am merely reminding all of my American friends about the Great White North and showing them that we can party too.
I put together a little something to remind you of just some of the good things that have come out of Canada...
Among the stars we have Canada to thank for: Steve Nash, Howie Mandel (I had to go back a few years to find a picture of the mullet), Mike Myers, Celine Dion, Jim Carrey, A.J. Cook (who actually grew up in the town next door to mine & we attended the same church) Rachel McAdams AND Ryan Gosling, William Shatner (surprised?), and Ryan Reynolds. I included Sandra Bullock in there, since she's posing as a Canadian in The Proposal - I can empathize. That's how I snagged Buddy *wink*.Speaking of Buddy, the first time we danced (was at EFY) on Canada Day and I made him wear a home-made Canadian flag all day. His willingness suggested to me that he wanted to be more than my friend...incidentally, I was right.
But, so he didn't feel left out, I made all of my EFY participants wear them as well. I got really good at drawing a maple leaf by the time I finished.
Pictured below: another good thing to come out of Canada. No, not me...the donuts! Tim Horton knows what he's doing. This was taken when I visited home in the summer after my freshman year. We stopped for Tim Horton's on the way home from the airport. That's right, I delayed seeing my family for these donuts...they're that good.
I'd list more reasons to love Canada, but it's almost not Canada Day anymore and heaven knows I need to save some material for next year - if any of you are still reading then. But on this, the day to celebrate Canada's "independence", take a moment to think about some of the good things Canada's done for you. If you can't think of anything, just don't say anything bad.And on this special day for Canada, I'm focusing on applying to renew my U.S. greencard. If any one you would like to volunteer to write a letter to the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services office confirming that Brandon and I are in a loving marriage and not one of convenience, please let me know. Yes, they need to confirm that I'm not paying him to stay married to me until my visa is permanent. We don't hold hands in public, but I assure you, we're in love. I'm quite serious about this, I need all the help I can get. Please don't let me get deported...that's no way to treat a British Canadian United States Conditional Permanent Resident on Canada Day!

9 pennies for your thoughts:
I love that pink shirt in the last photo. I want to own it. Hint. Hint.
You'll be happy to know our agency is currently working on a project for Tim Hortons. I still haven't tried their donuts, but it's good to see they are getting more and more stores in the US.
Let me know about that letter, I'm sure I could write something cutesy about you two.
The best thing Canada did for me was providing me with a tall, dark, sexy foreigner to marry. Thanks Canada!!
Oh, and we have definetly stopped by Timmy H's a few times while up north. In fact we are going up in August, perhaps I will have to get a picture of me eating one while there and send it too you...ha ha ha
Do you really need letters written?
Just make sure to include the picture from the top of your blog with your letter, that should seal the deal. Just make sure not to send the garbage can lid one, you look none to pleased with your hubby in that one, and they may not beleive it was posed :)
Hurray for Canada!!! When I was in the Granite Youth Symphony we went on tour to Canada during their beloved holiday we played "Oh Canada" at every venue.
BTW Canada is like my second home. I think I've told you this before. Although, I've only been there twice--I love the place!
