One of my fondest childhood memories involves sitting down as a family and watching a British sitcom from the 1970s entitled "Fawlty Towers".
Written by and starring John Cleese (one of my all-time favourite actors) the story in a nutshell is that Basil Fawlty and his wife Sybil have been unhappily married for 15 years and "run" a hotel together with the help of a Spanish waiter who doesn't understand English and a waitress/bartender/maid/artist. I introduced Brandon to the series early in our relationship, but as of late with not much time on our hands, we've taken to watching episodes of television shows and not entire movies. Fawlty Towers has been the program of choice lately. I encourage you all to check it out.
Here's a testimonial from Brandon about the greatness and hilarity of the sitcom: "I like Fawlty Towers. It is cool." Not as enthusiastic as I would have hoped, but he claims to be "more of a Nephi than an Isaiah" if that means anything to you! (That may be the most we'll hear from him on the blog!)
This picture is from an episode where some Germans are staying at Fawlty Towers, when the Second World War is still a touchy subject in Europe. After a blow to the head with a frying pan and a fire extinguisher exploding in his face, Basil ends up doing an impression of Hitler. From guests dying in the night to forgotten anniversaries to rats and con artists staying in the hotel, it really is a lot of fun...even for Americans!

6 pennies for your thoughts:
Mmm .. okay. I liked Brandon's line in today's entry. When I came to your page I thought I had accidentally gone to Alyssa's! :) I am just happy you are back to blogging! :) I don't know if I will ever be able to watch this sitcom unless I visit you again someday ... Okay. I am going to go get the mail. Bye! :)
I have actually seen Fawlty Towers! I love that show, it is hilarious!
SOME of us americans can appreciate foreign things like british humor...it's those of us who are less accepting and open minded who struggle (aka t-rav*)
Haha! I remember you made me watch that during our crazy roommate days. That and when you danced to Spice Girls WHICH I still have pictures of and might post them one day ;)
"Are You Being Served?" is about as British as i can get.
Hahaha, okay, we'll have to check it out for sure!
