We seem to cram so much into our weekends these days that they fly by entirely too quickly and we're exhausted by the end of it. So we took things relatively easy on Saturday and planned two things, and for Teagan's sake followed Dora's pattern and called it three. We went over and over "the plan" to the point where Teagan was chanting in the car: "Shopping, Fishies, Mermaids." Rather a strange to-do list, I admit, but it is as it sounds. We were "shopping" at Target, meaning we returned a few things and purchase a few others (by the way, it's such a rush to get 10x more than what you spend back in returns!) Brandon realized on the way that we needed eggs, so we called an audible and switched the list to "Fishies, Mermaids, Shopping." Suited Teagan fine.
We headed over to Bass Pro Shops and checked out the giant fish tank complete with giant fish. I'm surprised my legs aren't bruised, factoring Teagan's king fun grip on them as a gigantic white sturgeon stared her down.
We weren't sure exactly what time the mermaid was performing in the tank just outside the shop, so we headed over (sans stroller, by the way - it was scary for me, but went surprisingly well. Maybe she isn't a runner after all?) We were lucky enough to catch the last few minutes of her show and Teagan muscled her way up to the front of the tank and got a front row seat, not to mention some mermaid love.
She brought her Dora Mermaid doll and proudly showed it to the "real" mermaid. Very sweet. The mermaid was very kind to her and blew kisses, smiled and waved. Teagan was captivated.
Once the mermaid went on her break, we managed to find Dory AND Nemo and called the trip a success. I wish I could say the same about Target, but I'm trying to forget about it so won't rehash it here. Instead, I'll tell you that we added a deliciously unexpected stop at Panda Express to get some chow mein to go with the sweet & sour chicken I'd made the day before. Divine.
It was a fun-filled (nearly free) day and while we still sit in front of the TV exhausted on a Sunday night, I'll blame daylight savings and a new big girl bed instead of The Plan.
