And by "fun" I mean UUUGGGHHH! Strep throat ruined our second New Year in a row. Of course, we're all glad that this was the only incident (knock on wood) as this time in 2012, we were on our 2nd round of 3 in as many months. Yikes, right? And this year we had fun plans to attend the Giffords' New Year's Party, the name synonymous with a good time. What a let down.
I had been sick for a week, but it took Teagan spiking at fever of 104 degrees for us to consult a doctor. The pediatrician's waiting room was almost standing room only, with kids coughing and sneezing and licking everything in sight. Being a Saturday, Brandon was able to come with us...for the first time since Teagan was born. And since we have a lovely pediatrican who happened to be on call, she noticed that I don't usually sound like a dying frog and glanced at the back of my throat. Without hesitation, she told me that I have Strep and confirmed it with a swab. And Teagan has Strep. Awesome. She was so sweet to take some time to let Teagan play with her stethoscope and tongue depressors. We may wait for a few extra minutes when we go to see her, but the fact that Teagan enjoys her trips to the doctors more than makes up for it. And just as we were getting up to leave, she asked Brandon how he was feeling, to which he responded that he felt fine. One look at the back of his throat confirmed that he was indeed not fine. So we all walked out with prescriptions for antibiotics - a regular one stop shop - and had medicine moments twice a day for 10 days. By the time we were finished, Teagan was asking for "messin". They've done a great job making it taste good for the kiddies. Perhaps even too good.
Happy New Year indeed.
